Tech for Impact:
Learn STEM + Entrepreneurial Thinking to Create Real Social Impact

WomenX Biotech, in partnership with the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), is launching the 10 Days Tech for Impact: STEM Entrepreneurial Stewardship Summer Programme. This course is specially designed for students aged 15 and above, offering professional training in biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and social innovation.

Through hands-on experiments at the Science Park, designing feminine hygiene products, assembling sanitary pad vending machines, and learning problem-solving thinking and creativity from entrepreneurs, students will master STEM knowledge while placing strong emphasis on product safety testing and using their knowledge to address social needs.

Students who complete the programme will receive a personal recommendation letter personally written by Dr. Pui-Wah Choi, Founder of WomenX Biotech, along with a joint certificate issued by WomenX Biotech and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP).

How to Register:

  1. Pay a HK$1,000 deposit online first (fully refundable if you decide not to join).
  2. You will receive an email notification inviting you to attend an online briefing webinar.
  3. After attending the webinar, complete the remaining payment via FPS or cheque to successfully confirm your registration.
*If there are any discount/referral codes, please fill in during deposit check-out for future application fee deduction.

What makes the Tech for Impact 10-Day Programme special?

1. Hands-on Experience with Real Hong Kong Innovation & Technology Projects
Students will focus on menstrual health issues and personally participate in the full product development process — from concept to finished product. This includes laboratory bacterial testing, product design, and assembling + applying an IoT sanitary pad vending machine system, enabling students to truly “learn by doing.”

2. Interdisciplinary STEM Integration
Combining biotechnology, artificial intelligence, product design, and social innovation to cultivate students’ ability to use technology to solve real-world social problems.

3. Cultivating Entrepreneurial Thinking, Problem-Solving, and Leadership Skills
Through entrepreneurship training and teamwork, students will not only learn technical skills but also gain experience in leadership, project management, and creating meaningful social impact.

How is the Tech for Impact 10-Day Programme Designed?

The programme uses experiential learning to help students develop the following core competencies:

  • 🧪 Product Safety & Laboratory Testing: Learn rigorous laboratory procedures to ensure products are safe and reliable.
  • 🧪 Innovative Product Design: Apply design thinking to develop menstrual or health-related products.
  • 🧪 Internet of Things (IoT) Applications: Integrate smart systems and develop functions such as assembling automatic vending machines.
  • 🧪 Social Entrepreneurship Training: Understand the full process from problem identification and solution development to market implementation, fostering a social entrepreneurial mindset.

Who is the Tech for Impact 10-Day Programme suitable for?

This programme is ideal for students aged 15 and above who are interested in STEM, social innovation, entrepreneurship, and topics related to gender health equality, and who wish to create positive social impact through technology.

Course Content Overview:

  • Laboratory operation and safety training
  • Biomedical experimental testing: Detection of fluorescent agents, formaldehyde, and bacterial content in various hygiene products (boys will use tissue paper for testing)
  • Ultrasonic welding technology: Design and make your own sanitary pads / handkerchiefs / masks
  • Building Internet of Things (IoT) systems: Create a mini sanitary pad vending machine
  • Social impact assessment and learning how to design an innovative, socially impactful business model
  • Installation of sanitary pad vending machines in schools and usage statistics (subject to further discussion with schools)
  • Gender-specific bacterial testing related to female and male health
  • Making your own DNA necklace!

After Completing the Tech for Impact Programme:

1. Installation of Student-Assembled Sanitary Napkin Vending Machines on Campus The sanitary napkin vending machines personally designed and assembled by students will be installed in their schools. Subsequent operating costs will be discussed and agreed upon with the schools.

2. Social Impact Assessment & Long-term Tracking (Impact Measurement) One year after installation, we will comprehensively evaluate the programme’s long-term impact using real usage data. Students’ projects will be transformed into real social enterprise case studies to measure the social value and well-being outcomes they create.

In addition, we will provide 1,000 free sanitary napkins to the school as encouragement for the students’ efforts.
